GRVARS 2013 Field Day

FIELD DAY 2013
Green River Valley Amateur Radio Club
Moline, Illinois

The Green River Valley Amateur Radio Club, Moline, IL, conducted a Field Day exercise the weekend of 22-23 June 2013. Field Day is an annual operating event designed to test emergency preparedness in less than optimal conditions. The idea is to put together a self-sufficient, working station quickly and begin making contacts in a 24-hour period. The operators simulate emergency conditions: operating portable equipment on emergency power with temporary antennas. It is the largest on-the-air operating event sponsored by the ARRL (Amateur Radio Relay League). Field Day gives both experienced operators and novice operators a chance to share ideas and new experiences in Amateur Radio. Each year, tens of thousands of amateurs join in the excitement and camaraderie.

The ARRL Field Organization has been effective in establishing emergency communications nets during floods, hurricanes, fires, earthquakes and other major disasters.
